સુન્દરકાણ્ડ.
અથ ષટ્ષષ્ટિતમસ્સર્ગઃ||

એવમુક્તો હનુમતા રામો દશરથાત્મજઃ|
તં મણિં હૃદયે કૃત્વા પ્રરુરોદ સલક્ષ્મણઃ||1||

સ|| હનુમતા એવં ઉક્તઃ રામઃ દશરથાત્મજઃ સ લક્ષ્મણઃ તં મણિં હૃદયે કૃત્વા પ્રરુરોદ||

Thus told by Hanuman Rama the son of Dasaratha along with Lakshmana wept taking the Chudamani to his heart.

તં તુ દૃષ્ટ્વા મણિશ્રેષ્ઠં રાઘવઃ શોકકર્શિતઃ|
નેત્રાભ્યાં અશ્રુપૂર્ણાભ્યાં સુગ્રીવમિદમબ્રવીત્||2||

સ|| શોકકર્શિતઃ રાઘવઃ તં મણિશ્રેષ્ઠં દૃષ્ટ્વા અશ્રુપૂર્ણાભ્યાં નેત્રાભ્યાં સુગ્રીવં ઇદં અબ્રવીત્||

Seeing that Chudamani, overcome with sorrow Raghava with his eyes filled with tears spoke to Sugriva.

યથૈવ ધેનુઃ સ્રવતિ સ્નેહાત્ વત્સસ્ય વત્સલા|
તથા મમાપિ હૃદયં મણિરત્નસ્ય દર્શનાત્||3||

સ|| યથા વત્સસ્ય સ્નેહાત્ ધેનુઃ સ્રવતિ તથિઅવ મમ હૃદયં મણિરત્નસ્ય દર્શનાત્ ||

' Like the cow that let its milk overflow out of love for the calf, my heart also on seeing this Chudamani '.
મણિરત્નમિદં દત્તં વૈદેહ્યાઃ શ્વશુરેણ મે|
વધૂકાલે યથાબદ્ધં અધિકં મૂર્ધ્નિ શોભતે ||4||

સ||મે ઇદં મણિરત્નં મે વૈદેહ્યાઃ શ્વશુરેણ દત્તં | વધૂકાલે યથાબદ્ધં મૂર્ધ્નિ અધિકં શોભતે||

' This gem of an ornament was given by my father in law to Sita. It is more charming than when it was tied to the head at the time of marriage '.

અયં હિ જલસંભૂતો મણિ સજ્જનપૂજિતઃ|
યજ્ઞે પરમતુષ્ટેન દત્તઃ શક્રેણ ધીમતા||5||

સ|| અયં જલસમ્ભૂતઃ મણિઃ સજ્જનપૂજિતઃ યજ્ઞે પરમતુષ્ઠેન ધીમતા શક્રેણ દત્તઃ||

'This was found in water, worshipped by elders, given in the sacrifice out of great joy by wise Indra'.

ઇમં દૃષ્ટ્વા મણિશ્રેષ્ઠં યથા તાતસ્ય દર્શનમ્|
અદ્યાsસ્મ્યવગતઃ સૌમ્ય વૈદેહસ્ય તથા વિભોઃ||6||

સ|| સૌમ્ય આદ્ય ઇમં મણિશ્રેષ્ઠં દૃષ્ટ્વા યથા તાતસ્ય દર્શનમ્ તથા વિભોઃ વૈદેહ્યાઃ ચ અવગતઃ ||

'Today seeing this best of gems I have the darshan of my father as also the king of Videha'.

અયં હિ શોભતે તસ્યાઃ પ્રિયયા મૂર્ધ્નિ મે મણિઃ|
અસ્યાદ્ય દર્શને નાહં પ્રાપ્તાં તાં ઇવ ચિંતયે||7||

સ|| અયં મણિઃ તસ્યાઃ પ્રિયાયાઃ મૂર્ધ્નિ હિ શોભતે || અસ્ય આદ્ય દર્શનેન અહં તાં પ્રાપ્તાં ઇવ ચિંતયે ||

' This gem indeed shone on the head of my beloved. Today seeing this I am feeling as though I am seeing her'.

કિમહા સીતા વૈદેહી બ્રૂહિ સૌમ્ય પુનઃ પુનઃ|
પિપાસુમિવ તોયેન સિંચંતી વાક્યવારિણા||8||

સ|| સૌમ્ય ! પિપાસુમ્ ત્ફ્યેન ઇવ વૈદેહિ વાક્યવારિણા સિંચન્તી | સીતા કિં આહ પુનઃ પુનઃ બ્રૂહિ ||

' O Hanuman! Like water for a thirsty person, sprinkle the life giving words of Vaidehi. What did Sita say. Tell me again and again '.

ઇતસ્તુ કિં દુઃખતરં યદિમં વારિસંભવમ્|
મણિં પશ્યામિ સૌમિત્રે વૈદેહી માગતં વિના||9||

સ|| સૌમિત્રે વૈદેહીં આગતં વિના યત્ ઇમં વારિસંભવમ્ મણિં પશ્યામિ ઇતસ્તુ દુઃખતરં કિમ્ ||

'Oh Saumitri ! I am seeing this jewel formed out of water, without her being here. What can be more sorrowful '.

ચિરં જીવતિ વૈદેહી યદિ માસં ધરિષ્યતિ|
ક્ષણં સૌમ્ય ન જીવેયં વિના તા મસિતેક્ષણા||10||

સ|| સૌમ્ય યદિ માસં ધરિષ્યતિ વૈદેહી ચિરં જીવતિ |અસિતેક્ષણા વિના ક્ષણં ન જિવેયં||

' Oh Hanuman If Vaidehi can live for a month , she will live long. Without the black eyed one ! I cannot even live for a moment'.

નય મામપિ તં દેશં યત્ર દૃષ્ટા મમપ્રિયા|
ન તિષ્ઠેયં ક્ષણમપિ પ્રવૃત્તિ મુપલભ્ય ચ||11||

સ||યત્ર મમપ્રિયા દૃષ્ટા તં દેશં મામ્ અપિ નય | પ્રવૃત્તિં ઉપલભ્ય ક્ષણં અપિ ન તિષ્ઠેયં ||

' Take me to that place where my beloved is seen. Knowing where she is we cannot sit for even a moment'.

કથં સા મમ સુશ્રોણી ભીરુ ભીરુસ્સતી સદા|
ભયાવહાનાં ઘોરાણાં મધ્યે તિષ્ઠતિ રક્ષસામ્||12||

સ|| સા સુશ્રોણી ભીરુભીરુઃ સતી ભયાવહાનાં ઘોરાણાં રક્ષસાં કથં મધ્યે તિષ્ઠતિ ... ||

'That very timid lady with fair hips, how can she stay in the middle of the fearsome and dreadful Rakshasis '.

શારદઃ તિમિરોન્મુક્તો નૂનં ચંદ્ર ઇવાંબુદૈઃ|
આવૃતં વદનં તસ્યા ન વિરાજતિ રાક્ષસૈઃ||13||

' Her face like the moon covered by the rain clouds is surely bereft of brightness being surrounded by the Rakshasas'.

કિમાહા સીતા હનુમંસ્તત્ત્વતઃ કથ યાદ્ય મે|
એતેન ખલુ જીવિષ્યે ભેષજે નાતુરો યથા||14||
સ|| હનુમાન્ મે અદ્ય સીતા કિમ્ આહ તત્ત્વતઃ કથય | એતેન જીવિષ્યે ખલુ યથા ભેષજેન ||

' Hanuman ! Today tell me what is said by Sita. Truly I am eager . With that like a medicine, I will live'.

મધુરા મધુરાલાપા કિ માહ મમ ભામિની|
મદ્વિહીના વરારોહા હનુમન્ કથયસ્વ મે||15||

સ|| મથુરા મથુરાલાપા વરારોહા મત્ વિહીના મમભામિની કિં આહ | કથયસ્વ|

' My beloved , the lovely one who speaks sweetly who has fair hips, separated from me, what did she say? Please tell me.'

ઇત્યાર્ષે શ્રીમદ્રામાયણે આદિકાવ્યે વાલ્મીકીયે
ચતુર્વિંશત્ સહસ્રિકાયાં સંહિતાયામ્
શ્રીમત્સુન્દરકાણ્ડે ષટ્ષષ્ટિતમસ્સર્ગઃ||

Thus ends the sixty sixth chapter of Sundarakanda in Ramayana the first ever poem composed in Sanskrit by the first poet sage Valmiki
